Recognizing top Jerseys on the Canadian show circuit.

2017 All Canadian Contest

2017 All Canadian Contest Frequently Asked Questions

What is NEW for 2017?

Jersey Canada has worked hard to modernize and streamline the All Canadian Contest for 2017.  The All Canadian Contest continues to recognize top Jerseys on the Canadian show circuit, and now includes some exciting updates:

  • The 2017 All Canadian Contest is now 100% online.
  • We are pleased to introduce the Lifetime Component Class, to effectively demonstrate the efficiency and profitability of Canadian Jerseys.  This class is open to any cow with an official lifetime total solids record of 4,500kg or more combined fat and protein yield.
  • To ensure that All Canadians are indeed the top Jerseys on the Canadian show circuit, animals must place in the top eight (8) at the National Jersey Show (i.e. at the Royal), or place in the top four (4) in at least one qualifying show in order to be eligible for the All Canadian Contest.
  • Respecting provincial and national 4-H Association privacy policies, results for 4-H class entries are now limited to any qualifying “open show,” where the animal is the recognized 4-H project of the participant, and the 4-H member is leading the calf at the show.  In addition, 4-H Achievement Day show results, Western Canadian Classic (WCC) and TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic results will be considered for the All Canadian Contest.
  • The Selection Process has been modernized so that a nomination process is no longer required!  Now All Canadian Judges will rank their choice for the top six (6) animals in each class.  Points are assigned based on each Judge’s placings first through six, and the total point aggregate will determine the All Canadian, Reserve All Canadian, Honorable Mention, and three nominees for each class.

Why has the All Canadian Contest moved to an online system?

The NEW online system will improve the All Canadian Contest in many ways:

  • The omniContest platform is specifically designed to manage photo contests.
  • The online system will make it easier for All Canadian Contest participants to place and keep track of their entries using the “View Entries” screen.
  • Participants can now easily guarantee that the right photo is submitted with their entry.
  • All Canadian Contest administrators can view, verify and edit all entries directly online, with no risk of error from transferring information between file formats.
  • All Canadian Contest Judges can view and place each class online, without the risk of crashes or extremely slow download times.
  • Participants register their username and password for the 2017 contest, and can reuse that same account information for years to come!

What is a “qualifying show?”

Qualifying All Canadian Shows which take place in the provinces of Ontario or Quebec are any shows with a minimum of 55 head of Jerseys exhibited, while qualifying All Canadian Shows which take place in any other province must have a minimum of 40 head exhibited in total.  In the case of all-breeds shows held in the Jersey West and Jersey Atlantic regions, the 40 head minimum applies to all animals shown regardless of breed.

Which 4-H Show Results can I include in my application?

Results for 4-H class entries include any qualifying “open show,” where the animal is the recognized 4-H project of the participant, and the 4-H member is leading the calf at the show.  In addition, 4-H Achievement Day show results, Western Canadian Classic (WCC) and TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic results will be considered for the All Canadian Contest.

Why can’t I include my 4-H placings from other Regional 4-H Shows?

We recognize that 4-H members put a lot of time and effort into every show at which they exhibit their 4-H project calf.  As a result of provincial and national 4-H Association privacy policies, it is very difficult (and often not possible) for All Canadian Contest administrators to verify official results from regional and inter-county 4-H shows.  Rather than excluding some regional or inter-county show results and not others, the All Canadian Contest is following the model set by the Holstein All Canadian Contest, and will consider 4-H placings from qualifying open shows, as well as 4-H Achievement Day, Western Canadian Classic (WCC) and the TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic.

Can I send my All Canadian entries by email, fax or mail?

No.  The 2017 All Canadian Contest is now 100% online.  If you run into any challenges with your online entries, contact Kathryn Roxburgh at kathryn@jerseycanada.com or 519-821-1020.

When will the nominees be announced?

The new, streamlined selection process has made the Nomination Process redundant.  The full judging panel will review every qualified All Canadian Entry, and will rank their choice for the top six (6) entries in each class.  The All Canadian, Reserve All Canadian, Honorable Mention, and three nominees will be jointly announced in January.
