The Deadline Club’s 2018 Journalism Awards contest entry period is open!. Entries will now be accepted through Friday February 23, 2018. The 2018 contest honors journalism from 2017.

All entries must be made electronically through this site.

To enter, please register at the top of this page, and then log in. We strongly suggest you read through our Contest Rules before finalizing any entry.

If you are having any difficulty with the contest entry site, or have general questions that are not covered in the contest guidelines in the rules section of this site, contact us at awards@deadlineclub.org. 

The contest covers work that was published or broadcast in 2017. Entrants must be employees of or freelancers for news organizations with an office within a 50-mile radius of Columbus Circle in New York City.

Please read the contest guidelines carefully before entering. Judges reserve the right to move an entry to another category that may be more appropriate. In some cases, they may decide that a category merits no winners.

Entries will be judged on fairness, balance and accuracy; thoroughness, timeliness and clarity; news language and technical skills exhibited; enterprise, resourcefulness and obstacles overcome; effort involved in preparation; and the story’s interest and importance to the public.

The fee is $85 per entry. A work may be submitted to multiple categories, but a separate entry fee must be paid for each category. No entry will be judged unless the fee is paid by the contest entry deadline.

Fees may be paid by credit card on our website. Payments by check must be postmarked by the entry deadline, TBD, and mailed to The Deadline Club, c/o Salmagundi Club, 47 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10003. Make checks payable to The Deadline Club, and indicate on the check the name of your organization and how many entries were made on the contest entry system. Please e-mail awards@deadlineclub.org to notify us that your payment will be made by check.

From time to time, we may have questions for entrants. Please provide your full contact information when completing the online application. Include the individual’s name, organization, e-mail address, mail address and phone number. If possible, please provide a backup contact, and indicate if someone else should be notified about making plans to attend the awards dinner, where the winners will be announced.

Finalists in each category will be announced in April, and winners will be announced at our annual awards dinner on May 21 at the Harvard Club of New York City.

  • Carefully read the Contest Overview, Contest Rules, and Categories before selecting the categories to enter.
  • Register for the contest by clicking the "Register Button" located on the top right of this site. Registration is
    required before being able to continue with the entry process.
  • Click on the Create Entries button to begin entering your work in the contest. You will need to enter the name
    of the work and select the category you wish to enter it in from the drop down menu. Click the "save" button at
    the bottom of the page to continue with the entry process. You will need to repeat this process for each entry,
    even if you are entering the same work in multiple categories.
  • To upload files, please click on the "Select" button and select the file you want to upload. Please make sure the
    upload progress completes before clicking on the "Upload" button to upload the file into the contest system.
    A green circle will appear to the left of the filename indicating it is ready to be uploaded into the system.
  • Once you have uploaded all of your entries, hit the Review Entries button. Click on any "incomplete" indicators
    to which steps you will need to fulfill to complete the process. If the only remaining required step is to make your
    payment, click on the checkbox next to your respective unpaid entries and click on the “Pay Online” button.
  • Clicking on the "Pay Online” button will take you to a page with the balance due. You may pay using a credit card
    here. If you are paying by check, hover over the “Pay Offline” button to read and follow the instructions.
  • Click on "Welcome" located on the top right of this site to access "Your Account." Click on the "Your Account" if you
    need to change the contact information for your primary contact or add a secondary contactt.
