AOPA wants to help you live your dream! If you are aged 15 - 18 and have a burning desire to learn to fly, then you came to the right place.  AOPA wants to help you earn your wings through its You Can Fly High School Flight Training Scholarship program which will award  $100,000 in flight training scholarships this fall.

Twenty deserving teens who are truly passionate about pursuing a pilot’s certificate will each receive $5,000 to apply towards direct flight training expenses through an approved flight school or certificated flight instructor. This includes aircraft rental fees, flight/ground instruction, and exam fees, subject to AOPA approval. As part of the scholarship application process, you’ll be asked to detail your interest in aviation and demonstrate responsibility as well as leadership and good decision-making skills.

To be eligible, you must:

1.      Be a current high school student, aged 15-18,  by the date of the scholarship application deadline (September 30, 2016)

2.      Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident

3.      Have parent or guardian approval (under 18 years of age)

4.      Have not completed the sport, recreational, glider, or private pilot check ride at the time of application.

5.      Have a minimum GPA of 2.75.

6.      Either complete your solo flight (if you haven’t already) or achieve your pilot’s license within one year of receiving the scholarship
