Scholarship applicants must meet all the criteria listed below.

1.       Current high school student, 15-18 years old

2.       U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident

3.       Parent or guardian approval (under 18 years of age)

4.       Not have completed a sport, recreational, glider, or private pilot certificate at the time of application

5.       Minimum GPA of 2.75

6.       Complete solo flight or achieve pilot certificate within one year of receiving the scholarship

 

* Employees of AOPA and their immediate family members and household members are not eligible to participate in the AOPA high school flight training scholarship program. The term “immediate family members” includes siblings, children, and grandchildren.

 

Requirements

The applicant is responsible for submitting all materials on time. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.  Applicants must:

     1.  Complete an online application with written responses

     2.  Upload the following documents:

  •  Your most recent high school transcript including the first semester grades of the 2016-17 school year
  •  Notarized affidavit signed by student and parent (parent signature required if student is under 18)

     3.  Supply two names for references. At least one must be from a high school teacher, counselor, coach, or other school official. Both references may be from teachers, counselors, coaches, or other school officials if you wish to do so. References must not be from anyone related to you, including a guardian. References should be from people who have been in a supervisory role to you, or another adult. Your reference will receive an email with a link and will be able to enter their recommendation for you directly onto the page.

     4.  Scholarship Funds/monies received by the Applicant must be spent and exhausted on authorized expenses within twelve (12) months of Applicant’s receipt of any Scholarship funds.

     5.  Scholarship Funds/monies not spent or exhausted completely within twelve (12) months shall be returned to AOPA.
