Purpose

The CPWA National Public Works Week Awards were established to promote excellence in National Public Works Week (NPWW) public outreach by recognizing municipalities for their NPWW programs and events.
 
Awards will be given in five categories:
  • First Time Entry: Any community submitting for the first time
  • Community under 10,000: Any community with a population under 10,000
  • Community of 10,000 to 29,999: Any community with a population from 10,000 to 29,999
  • Community of 30,000 to 99,999: Any community with a population from 30,000 to 99,999
  • Community of 100,000 or more: Any community with a population of 100,000 or more
Eligibility
Any municipality in Canada is eligible for nomination.
 
Selection
Criteria to be used in the selection process include:
  • Public Outreach (20%) – the range or scale of people engaged.
  • Education (20%) – the inclusion of an education component(s).
  • Staff Involvement (15%) – the level of participation by Public Works staff and union personnel.
  • Political Involvement (15%) – the level of political presence in the NPWW activities.
  • Events Held (10%) – the number of days NPWW events were held.
  • Charity Events (10%) – the inclusion of a charitable event(s) and the level of volunteer effort involved.
  • Creativity (10%)
The CPWA National Public Works Week Awards Evaluation Committee reviews the nominations and selects the award winners.
 
Nomination
Nominations can be made by the managing public agency or municipality. Please refer to the Nomination and Supporting Data Form for more details.
 
Deadline
June 21, 2019
 
Presentation
A designated representative of the public agency or municipality is presented a plaque at the municipal event of their choice (usually a town council meeting) and winners are announced at the CPWA Luncheon at PWX and in APWA publications.
