Project Analysis: Please provide a brief background on the project and your company efforts to demonstrate good corporate citizenship in the areas of community involvement, environmental, or socially responsible practices.
MGM Resorts International executed an array of initiatives intended to support those impacted economically by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, including a $1 million crisis and disaster relief pledge into an employee emergency grant fund and donating the equivalent of 400,000 meals across the United States. Our model is predicated on public-private-partnerships to deliver goods and services, on scale, where it matters most so that we can embrace humanity and protect our planet.
Objectives and Goals: What did organization set out to achieve in undertaking this project in CSR? What were the goals you set to measure your success?
Because of the difficult decision to temporarily close our properties across the country, MGM Resorts International donated over 480,000 pounds of food – or 400,000 meals – to the communities in which it operates. We worked with local food banks to ensure all available fresh food from our resorts was safely and quickly donated to charitable organizations in several under-served areas. We worked closely with community partners throughout the country to understand unique regional demands to provide support where it is needed most.
Results: How did you measure the effectiveness of your efforts and what direct and tangible results did you achieve? Please be as specific as possible and share the full impact of your efforts in CSR.
Across Las Vegas, MGM Resorts provided extensive on-the-ground support and in-kind donations to several local community organizations and agencies. We donated 301,000 pounds of food to Three Square Food Bank, providing 251,000 meals to community members in need. Nonperishable food has been donated from multiple MGM Resorts' properties across The Strip along with bags for the distribution of food and meals to those in need. MGM Resorts delivered 250,000 rapid COVID-19 test kits and has donated essential PPE items such as gloves and masks for healthcare workers in the state of Nevada. MGM National Harbor (Oxon Hill, Md.): worked with food donor partner Nourish Now to contribute 55,000 pounds of food to community nonprofits. The food will provide more than 45,000 meals to Maryland residents throughout Montgomery County and Prince George's County. MGM Springfield (Springfield, Mass.): donated 12,000 pounds (over 10,000 meals) to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Open Pantry Community Services and Friends of the Homeless. Beau Rivage (Biloxi, Miss.): donated 25,000 pounds of food to organizations including Extra Table, Loaves & Fishes, Lord is My Help and the Hancock County Food Pantry. The effort provided more than 20,000 meals to South Mississippi families. Gold Strike: (Tunica, Miss.): donated 10,000 pounds of food, more than 8,000 meals, to Sacred Hearth Southern Mission. MGM Northfield Park (Northfield, Ohio): Working with JACK Casino and JACK Thistledown, MGM Northfield Park donated more than 3,000 pounds of food to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, offering support to the Northeast Ohio community. MGM Grand Detroit donated approximately 15,000 pounds of produce and dairy products to Forgotten Harvest, a food distribution channel and donated 3,000 gloves to medical professionals. Borgata: (Atlantic City, NJ): donated more than 35,000 pounds or about 30,000 meals to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic County and to the Community Food Bank of NJ.
